Self Storage
Personal Space
The floor is littered with papers and
documents, clothes and random fabric are
draped over every available seat back and at
least a dozen objects are atop every surface
in sight.
We all know the drill. Most, if not all of
us, already know how it is to live or at
least stay in a house or apartment that’s
overflowing with stuff. Whether the reason
is excessive retail therapy or a resident
who doesn’t exactly prioritize organization
and neatness, there is always a constant
conclusion – more space is needed.
I Need Some Space
With this great demand for space to relieve
cluttered homes and cramped apartments,
especially in the United States and United
Kingdom, self storage was born. Self storage
caters to clients who simply need a place
away from home to store random items for an
amount of time. It’s also for those who need
24/7 access and security to the items they
put in.
Think of it as an extension of your garage
or your attic – if you have something to
store or something unnecessary that you
don’t want to dispose of yet, you stuff it
in a box and put it there. The main
difference (and perhaps the main advantage)
of self storage from “attic/garage storage”
is the fact that self storage facilities are
not physically connected to your residence.
This spares you the agony of having to clean
all those spare sofas and old writing
tables. Such facilities also have security
personnel to ensure that undesirables don’t
get their paws on your belongings.
Inner Space
There are a lot of other great things about
self storage. Aside from getting to
personally move and arrange your stuff (in
case there are sensitive items in there that
shouldn’t be seen or handled by anyone but
you) and gaining the assurance that your
items will be safe (such facilities often
have fire alarms and such aside from burglar
protection), self storage companies’ terms
are very flexible.
You can get a space for yourself for a time
period as short as a couple of hours to as
many as a couple of years. As a bonus, some
companies give discounts to longer stays.
Most facilities also offer spaces in a
variety of dimensions, which could range
from a 25-square-foot space for several
boxes to a 200-square-foot garage where you
could leave your car, your bicycle and
several pieces of furniture.
The self storage industry is all about
catering to the demand for space or, at the
very least, providing you a place in which
to stow all the extra stuff you don’t want
to chuck away just yet. With the abundance
of companies competing for clientele,
today’s self storage industry charges very
little indeed for personal space.
